7th December
Well here is a new day, another day, another dollar as some might say and maybe thats right. It just came to my mind that we always are 7 hours ahead of people in central Europe, 8 hours ahead of people in Great Britain and even 12 to 16 hours ahead of people in the United States. What is all this about? It is just that I am sure that many kids in Europe and the states might want to swap with us here, because we will become our Christmas presents hours before them. When I think about my 13 year old niece - Mathilde- in Denmark, and how she use to behave when the whole family is gathered around the nice Christmas dinner, and after a long and tiring month just want to enjoy some good food and wine and relax. After 5 minutes she starts: "When are we going to get our presents, when are we finished eating, I am finished already!"Here she is a little younger than today, but i think she is still as impatient as then. And now when we are living here 7 hours ahead of them in Denmark, I can imagine how she will put pressure on my poor brother and sister in law on Christmas eve day: "Jørgen and Catriona has got their present now" she will maybe say at 2 pm. And at 4 pm: now they have had their presents for nearly one hour, when will I get mine? So in Scotland and England, our family must be happy that Amy and Reece yet are to small to understand this thing with the time difference on our globe, and also will demand their presents 8 hours before. But, and this is very interesting, because danish people always gets their presents on Christmas eve and British people in the morning on Christmas day, and because we are going to visit Julia - a British girl- in Vietnam, we will in fact get our presents after Mathilde in Denmark, or maybe excatly at the same time. Now we need to do some calculating: We are 7 hours ahead of Denmark. That means when Mathilde gets her presents at 9 or 10 pm on Christmas eve, it will be 5 am on Christmas day here, and we will not get up so early for something so silly, so in fact Mathilde, you can calm down, you will get your presents before us, so there is no need to swap.
