From Ávila to Trujillo
Second leg of the 2013 Vuelta España. The Mortensens Vuelta that is. After leaving Madrid, in our prebooked hire car.
Well that is quite a story. We pee poked a car I Madrid for 28 days and got some kind of offer for a nice new Seat or a similar model. The offer was great and we prebooked and payed it. Then on the day we get there to pick up the car, and after all the paper work was done and the guy told us that the car was a brand new Reneault, no Seat Alhambra or what ever sedan, doesn't really matter does it, a car is a car and hirecars are mainly in good order, so we go to pick up our car, and what do we get.
A van. A flicking brand new huge Renault van, big and clumsy for the windy roads of the Spanish south west and Andalusia.
How do you park a huge van like that in the wee spots that the hotels in the old ancient walled towns offer you? Look at the picture, yes that was the space left for us at the hotel in Ávila. And they even charged us 11 euros for that space. And what do you think; of corse there was a dent in the side of our van from the car next to us as they'd left earlier than us in the morning, so now our brand new prebooked sedan has got a dent in the side from the door of a neighbouring car.
That's why you get an insurance, isn't it? Big Renault brought us over the mountains, sierras gredos and a bit through Castilla leon before we re entered Castilla La Mancha for a wee spell. The crossing of the mountains was a highlight, two passes and Stunning views, here the last of them.
Nice view right. Now we are in Trujillo, an old romantic town in Extemedura province. This is as good as Ávila was before.
Maybe even more interesting. We will be staying here for two days to get more time to get the atmosphere of the town.
