Nebengerüche!

From old town through wast land to old town

Wasted thoughts of a tourist in an old spanish town.

It is so hot here at the moment. Saw some "noticas"on the tellie the other day, that the temperatures will rise to about 40 something degrees here, and in Madrid the mercury in the thermometers are up to 38 and even 40. Hot hot hot.

One morning I went for an early walk through Trujillo. The other days in that place, we'd been out from around noon, where the sun already has got a grip and everyone else is staying indoor. Was not been the wisest thing to do, and resulted in us lasting only for about 3 hours, before we had to retrieve back to the comfort of the hotel room and the aircondition.

Anyway. I am drifting. I went on an early expedition that morning and it was nice to see how the town woke up and everybody was occupied with all their duties. For me it was like a theatre, like something sat up for me as entertainment and just to explore when I happened to go round a corner and someone was just waiting for some audience so they could perform dome kind of daily routine for a typical Extremaduian town.

But in fact, it was the daily life of the inhabitants. They are doing this every day in the same manner. There was this little shop where a bakery had delivered bread and left it outside on the pavement in big baskets. And now the lady was opening up her wee shop and bringing the bread inside to the shelves. There were the different cafe's, running their morning busyness, blue collar men and white collar men were having their early morning coffee, their tostadas or churros con chocolate before heading to work, or maybe even the days first brandy. Probably this is also the way people visiting Hong Kong are looking at me when I go to have dim sum at the waterfront in Sai Kung.
