TAI WAN Village(almost)Daily Inquirer Thursday 20th of December 2007 Welcome to the first online issue of the Tai Wan Village (almost) Daily Inquirer. Here you can read news, facts and gossip around this wonderful Micropole in the east of the New Territories. Among todays stories: - How was the weather this morning? - Why does all cars drive so fast through Tai Wan? - Does the dog next door bark at me because it does not like me or because it is bored? - 2nd part of the big "where, when & what 2007" quiz. - And of course, todays Christmas Traktoor.
Weather
The weather this morning was cloudy and Grey just like yesterday, but with the different that you could see the mountains of the country park across the bay. The temperature was about 16 degrees. During the day the sun made it through and we had some blue sky and again around 20 degrees.
Infrastructure
Well, at 7:30 in the morning you might have a chance to cross the road without anxiety being crushed by a lorry or one of the many private school busses passing through Tai Wan on their way to Sai Kung or Ma On Shan. But later in the day you better watch out when the traffic to Sai Kung gets busy and fast. There is no sign of any speed limit , only this one and it is placed so you can see it when you are half way through the village. And then it is too late any way. The road is the only road from the massive high rises in Sha Tin and Ma On Shan to Sai Kung, and on week ends ten thousands of people from here want to escape into the country park and to the fishing town of Sai Kung to enjoy the possibilities of deep sea fishing or golfing. The black dog barking next door
This is our house seen from the outside when you come up the steep steps from Mr. Wangs Pavement Pub. The red cross is our balcony and I have added an arrow so you can see our rooftop. And this is our postbox. It does not really look Chinese and it is mainly filled with letters to the previous tenants -from the last 10 years. But back to our house, or better to our neighbors house, thats where you will see a blue marquise above the little front garden. There is a dog kept in that front garden the whole day, and every time I go out through the little alley and look to the right, I see her standing with her front legs and head out through the fence, like a drunk man at a bar, and as soon as she recognize me, she just starts barking and nothing seems to stop her. So it has become some sort of a daily ritual for me now to try to get out without her knowing. And another funny thing; she does not bark at Catriona.Sorry, I know that this photo is out of focus and shaken, but I did not want to stress her more than necessary, because it is me who have to listen to her barking all day. And there is one advantage, Catriona always knows when I am about to enter the house. Graffiti or Art in public open spaces in Tai Wan Village When I am on the beach in the morning to take the weather photo I always go to the same spot in front of a newly restored house direct at the sea shore. By the way; I have mentioned this house before and it is still for rent. It is a very nice house, three stocks and a rooftop and it can be yours for the nice little sum of 100,000 Hk$ a month. (Converted apx 10.000 Euros) When the flood is in the water goes up to a wall under the terrace of that house. And there is always a graffiti painting on that wall. And yesterday I saw that there it suddenly was a new one.Graffiti is not a big problem here in Hong Kong, not at all; in fact it's quite rare and many European mayors will be envious at the city administration here. I Think it looks nice on that wall and only people like me walking there when the tide is in, or people in their boats can see it, so why not let time create it own kind of graffiti. Time does and it is all around you; you just have to find the pieces of graffiti Art that time creates. I will just display a couple of free public time graffiti art from the pavement and a house wall, and there is plenty more out there, just let your eyes do the walking. The next days, weeks, months or years you might find more of that stuff here, if I still got the time to look for it. Now to some thing completely different because I am kind of getting tired of the layout and the few possibilities this blog thing offers. Todays "Where, what and when" Quiz -2007. Well yesterday there was only one participant in this quiz, and sorry Sabrina; but you had only one right answer. But it was a good try and thank you for your guts to participate.
It is still -and only- about 2007. For the 4th time did this amazing event take place and everyone who didn't have anything else to do showed up. It was like a rebirth of the gladiator games in the ancient Rome, because everybody knows; "Football is not about life and death, it is far much serious". Somebody seemed to be more interested in having a nice day in the park than joining the battles just in front of them. After all those red guys managed to reach the final of these games, which they unfortunately lost 1 - 0. After all; it wasn't the goalkeepers fault just because he too often were left alone, and the two best defenders injured each other in a desperate attempt to clear the box for intruders. Please answer following questions: What is the name of the team? When did this event take place? Which magazine did the two defenders enjoy so much that they got injured to get time to read it? The Rules; ladies and gentlemen, is like yesterday. Post a comment with the 3 answers + E-Mail address hope for the 1st prize; to get protrayed on this blog on Valentinesday 2008.
Todays Traktoor
A friend of mine -Ray- found it some where more than a year ago. I don't know where and when, but maybe he will tell us some how. Now there is only 3 days to Christmas ans I am going to bed.
