29th of june 2008. The final day.

Don Muecke & Sancho Miguellos a german - spanish friendship. But how long?In the last post I mentioned that soon on this blog you could enjoy the adventures of Don Muecke and Sancho Miguellos in the south eastern part of Spain. Here you can see them at a football tounament in Dølschen just after Sancho Miguellos made sure that he had come in Dresden ("Aeh, Ich bin in Dresden gekommen, valle!"). Well so far, there has been nothing coming from them about their latest adventure as I'm still waiting for their first report. So today I'll put the focus on another German - Spanish event taking place this very evening of June the 29th 2008 at 8.45 pm CET in Vienna, Austria; The Euro Championship 2008 Final in football.

Germany vs. Spain or Wagner vs. Don Quixote! What ever that means?
As I've been living in both countries I have a certain knowledge of the different cultures and to the people living there and so it could be difficult for me to support one of them. As in any other newspaper or football magazine today the will be made a lot of analyzes of the two teams today; who is maybe in advantage where and why and any tiny aspect of this match will be put into focus to keep the fans calm and certain that their team will win to night.
I'm not going to do quite that, I'm going to make some other comparisons between today's finalist's to find out who could be in advantage that way.

Odd breakfast!
In Germany you can have White sausages with sweet mustard, a salty breezel and a wheat beer for break fast.
These sausages contains no preservatives and therefor they have to be eaten before noon. You peel the skin of them, ditch them and the breezel into the mustard and then you rinse it down with a sip of the wheat beer.
A tip how to cook and to eat the Weisswurst from you tube.

In Spain you can order a portion of Churros with a thick cup of chocolate. Churros is a kind of pancake dough, Its surface is ridged due to being piped from a churrera, a syringe with a star-shaped nozzle, into boiling oil and deep fried to a crunchy consistency. It is then ditched into the hot chocolate and eaten bit by bit.

Advantage: As it was only between these two dishes, Germany is in advantage because of the healthier nutrition facts and the better sound- and camera work. In a comparison between the German and the Spanish cuisine in general, there is not doubt that I will put the Spanish up front.

Flag and national anthem:

Two colors -red and yellow with a nice logo or weapon in the middle and the anthem decent and harmonic.

Nearly the same colors as Spain, just add black and turn the order around and then you have Germany. The anthem is just a little to serious and just too bombastic.
Germany could be in advantage because of the extra color but is not, the composition of the Spanish flag is well balanced and leave the eye some rest. the black part of Germany's flag let's the composition fail as the color is to dominant and heavy to be put on top.
Advantage Spain.

With this Final Germany has been in the Finals for the European cup 6 times and won 3 of them. Spain has only been in 2 Finals and only won it ones and that was back in 1964. That could also be an advantage for Germany. But statistics doesn't really matter in Football and we could also say that Germany has won so many times and now, 44 years after the last triumph it could be Spain's turn again to win something. That is also not fair, so I will talk about the quality of football played by the two teams so far in the tournament, and here there is no doubt; the Spanish team has played the most attractive and as well succesfull football of all teams so far. With 10 straight wins in the qualification as in the tournament, they deserve to have reach that final and they certainly deserve to win it, if they manage to put out the same sort of performance as in the recent games. So to all my friends in Germany who might read this; Sorry, but tonight I really wish that Spain will be the new European Champions. I will put on my Spanish shirt and go to watch the game with my German friend Ralf at a friends house tonight and then we will see whats going to happen. And then something for Germany to be proud of; Your team has been in 6 of the 12 European finals so far, that's a 50 percent record, and as you say there; "Hut ab".

The final day.
This is not only ment for the football and the final today, no it is also our final day for a while here in Hongkers. We are leaving for our European holiday tomorrow and we are both looking forward to that.I will try to keep on posting things as we come along on our journey through England, Scotland and Denmark. We hope we can manage to go for a visit to Dresden also, but at this point we are not sure, and it might also be ok, because as I have revealed my sympathies in tonight's game, I might have no friends in Germany and Dresden anymore.
Have a nice summer and visit this page again for the incredible adventures of Don Muecke & Sancho Miguellos Botella; if they still are talking to each other after tonights result.

The dairy of a PE teacher!

It is again time to do some stuff here for all of you guys who apparently use to log in here to have a look if something new has come up. To those I can only apologize for my lack of creativity, but in the last 5 weeks I’ve been working as a PE teacher on full time, so you can imagine how little energy I’ve got when I finally get home in the night.
Also the Euro cup is on, and because I live in Asia the games are on in the middle of the night and only on pay TV –which I haven’t got- and therefore I’m depending on the local pub’s and bars around this area and to hope they want to stay up so late to show it. That has never been so yet, and so I’ve managed to see only some of the games starting at 6 pm in Europe, which is midnight time here, so many of you who really know me will also know how much I miss Dresden and the nice big screen football events in Trotzdem right now.
Well at this stage there is not s many games left, but the ones left should be the funny ones and as I see it there is not really one major favorite at the moment, everybody who is still there can win this thing. Of course Germany could be seen as a kind of a favorite because of their reputation and ability as a tournament team. I hope for Spain and from my point of view it would be fair and reasonable as well if they would win it, as they haven’t won anything for over 44 years. Well someone might now mention that Turkey and Russia has never won anything and speaking about Germany, then they haven’t won something since 1996, so according to them it’s only fair and logical as it was their right to win it now because they have been so badly beaten in the previous two Euro tournaments.

The wet season!

It seem as the rain from the last 5 to 6 weeks has taken a little break, and so we could enjoy our Saturday night Junk trip from Hong Kong island and over the Victoria harbor to Lantau island and back along the west side of the Kowloon peninsular.
It was a nice and sunny evening and so it was the best possible way to say ferwell to Lewis and Jana, who after three months of work in Hong Kong will leave and go back to London.
Soon we will be leaving too, but just for the holiday and we will be back in August for the second chapter of our Hong Kong adventure.

Don Muecke and Sancho Miguellos Adventures!

Soon on this site you will be able to enjoy the amazing adventures of Don Muecke and Sancho Miguellos in the little sleepy village; Altea between Valencia and Alicante on the Spanish Costa del Sol. So don’t hesitate to enter this site again, as with the two of them you will never know what to expect.

See you and may the force be with SPAIN.

Black rain is nearly like under the sea.

Well sorry for that again. One week ago I promised to show you Catriona as a jellyfish and myself as a drowned buccaneer tomorrow or maybe Monday, but now it is Tuesday and a week later and who cares about that now where the Euro 2008 finally has started and there should be more important things to write about on this page than eople wearing silly costumes in the streets of Central district in Hong Kong.
But promised is promised so here here you go, impressiones from the "under the sea" pub crawl event for one week ago.Catriona wasn't really a jellyfish though, more like a plankton with a green wig, here she's cuddled up with Larissea the coral reef.My ship went down in the south sea and left me alone with some of the inhabitants.Later I found one of my mates I'd lost as our ship; "Fortune of ST. Pauli" went down. He now joined in with this little clown fish so we separated again a bit later as these orange sea anenome joined the under water world, as it were a sign for a later fortune for "oranje" against la squadra azzurra. It is quite obvious here o this foto that the squadra azzurra -here symbolized by the little blue Smurf, trying to make an impression on the orange wall.

Black Rain.
Later the wet element came from above. It is really the wet season now and the weather has been extremely wet the last couple of days. And the culmination came on this Saturday morning with the first black rain warning during our time here in Hong Kong was risen. Black rain is it called when they expect more than 70 mm an hour or more. When this warning comes up everybody is advised to say indoor and schools and stuff will close until the warning is cancelled. There is two more levels; red and amber rain. Unfortunate it came on a Saturday, so we didn't get an extra day of. It is difficult to illustrate how much water really came down, but all over Hon Kong there was flooded areas and even big landslides and blocked roads. This might give some impression of the amounts of water coming down during the black rain warning. In front of our house we have this little canal for the water from the mountains to run down. Normally there is no water running down, so here you can see the result of the black rain, and the picture is taken more than one hour after the warning had changed. It is still hot though, so it feels like going out in a sauna and in minutes you are drenched, either by rain or sweat.
Yesterday; Monday was a holiday and it was the day of the Dragon boat festival, and that is going to be our next story, and some readers from Dresden might know what I am talking about when I say Dragon boat, so stay tuned - and today I will not say when you can expect more.
